I'm a writer based in the UK, a regular writing contributor to the transformational learning platform, Advaya, and work within the climate space focusing on fostering resilience amongst young people. Through this newsletter, I hope to create a community for the quiet creatives; the sensitive and sometimes introverted creatives who are seeking to share and nurture their creative expression through writing. By Hannah is a reader-supported publication; to receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

About By Hannah

I’ve always loved to write. I remember writing fantastical stories from a young age (particularly during my adolescence when I was inspired by the short stories of Angela Carter). I would vivaciously read books well into the night, and dream about one day writing my own stories for the world to see. This love of writing has never faded, but the fear of said writing being seen by the world grew. Eventually, my writing became something deeply personal. I’ve journaled for 15+ years, excavating my inner world through writing. I’ve spent the last couple of years honing in on what I want to do with my life, and what to share with the world, and writing keeps calling to me — and believe me, I've tried to ignore it over the years, but here we are. So, this is a space for creativity; for exploring our inner and outer world; for tending to our relationship with the more-than-human world; and exploring what it means to be a quiet creative.

What You Get

This newsletter aims to share my weekly musings on what it means to be human, and things I’m currently musing on, exploring, and tending to. It’ll also be a place for my explorations into creativity; nature writing practises and how to tend to our inner creative life.

£5/Mo or £42/year:

For paying subscribers, you’ll receive access to free Monday letters, plus:

  • Monthly Process Letters: where I will share my journey of creating and writing as a quiet creative; provide writing reflection prompts and guidance on how to write with and about nature.

  • On The Shelf: this is my bi-weekly recommendations for essays, articles, podcasts and more!

  • Unlimited Comments: this is the space for community connection and conversation. This is where we will get to know one another as a community, sharing ideas and our work.

£60/year: Founding Member — everything above,

Each month, a portion of the proceeds of my Substack will be donated to an organisation of choice.

Why pay for writing?

We are living in a really exciting time, where readers can directly support the creatives they resonate with, where possible. For paid subscribers, your support of my work allows me to keep creating and gives me the capacity to keep writing and sharing. It also helps shift the paradigm of the “starving artist”; writing and creating “content” takes a lot of time and energy, so showing support for the work you love is invaluable. Paid subscribers also support me in offering free subscriptions to those who need them. If being a paid member isn’t for you, you’ll still get access to four letters a month.

Give Back

  • For every 100 paid sign-ups, I will offer 10 paid subscriptions to people who cannot afford it.

I believe we can co-create a new way of being through intentional, grounded work of self-inquiry, community, and creativity. This is a daily practice. Are you ready to join?

Love, Hannah
