Welcome to On The Shelf my weekly recommendation list of things I am reading, watching, listening to, and saving for later.
I’m slowly returning from my hibernation period. I’ve come back to the UK and we are now finally in spring. The trees are blossoming, the breeze feels a bit warmer, and even the birds are riding on the high that comes with the first days of spring.
This week’s Monday newsletter is an On The Shelf letter, where I’ll be sharing recent articles & podcasts that have caught my attention over the past week.
What I’m reading
I’ve been working my way—at a rather rapid pace—through A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I have to say, I’m enjoying it!
I’m also excited to dive into ‘The New York Years: Diaries & Notebooks 1941-1950’ of Patricia Highsmith. I’ve always loved reading diaries, especially of women writers. I also brought ‘Wake, Siren’ by Nina Maclaughlin (she wrote some of my favourite series for the Paris review, which you can see here) after pining over it for over a year; ‘Lanny’ by Max Porter; ‘Small Things Like These’ by Claire Keegan; and ‘The Sea Clock and Other Stories’ by Nayrouz Qarmout. These will be my spring reads, and I’ll be sure to share some short reviews once I’ve finished them.
Here are five articles I read this week:

The Little Secrets of Great Works: Frida Kahlo's Broken Column
I went to watch Dune 2 yesterday (really enjoyed it), and thought this was a pretty interesting analysis:

You might be interested in this book Great Women Painters by Phaidon Editors. I noticed it in a bookshop yesterday and have heard great things about it. I also love that ‘women’ has a line through it on the front cover.
This is such a great compilation of recommendations! I loved the articles that you shared 🤎
